The Role of the Region in Science

The Cuyahoga Valley is a very important place when it comes to discoveries in nature, and the development of the sciences. This massive area in Northeasetern Ohio, contains the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Through the park and other parts of the general area, runs most of the famous Cuyahoga River. Rivers are always home to thousands of different species of plant life and animals. The Cuyahoga River is not an exception to this rule. The Cuyahoga Valley, contains forests, wetlands, and several other types of unique environments. These areas help scientists, and even the frequent visitor, learn more about this diverse planet.

Statistics and Their Importance

There are close to 1000 types of plants scattered through most of the National Park and its surrounding area. There are over 20 different types of mammals, nearly 50 types of fish, more than 20 amphibian species, and almost 100 different types of birds. With the incredible mix of distinct families and orders of animals found in the Cuyahoga Valley, it’s no wonder that several scientific projects have been created in recent years to study the region. Dozens of scientists and professors flock the region throughout the year. They come to make approximate tallies of the numbers of animals, and how they are growing or decreasing in numbers.

Cuyahoga Valley Programs

There are two programs that are being undertaken as part of maintaining the ability for the Cuyahoga Valley to serve as the basis for developing scientific data.

One is, the National Park exerting effort in retaining as much of its natural resources as it can. The federal group that runs the park provides funds to ensure that this is carried out, so that the habitat, and subsequent research of the area, can continue to exist unharmed.

There’s also another program that dedicates its time to observing how affects, like global warming, play a role in the region. This is especially useful, because the data can be used to help natural animal habitats, and areas of plant life, around the world.
